How We Pick

Treadluma is a data-first recommendation site for home fitness equipment. Our method is built around one principle: show our work.

What we do

1. Verify specifications from the source. Specs (motor horsepower, belt dimensions, max speed and incline, weight capacity, flywheel weight, resistance levels) come first from the manufacturer’s own product pages. Where a manufacturer page is unclear, we cross-check against major retailer listings from Best Buy, Macy’s, or Kohl’s. We never copy spec numbers from other review sites or from Amazon product tables.
2. Print every price, exactly. Every product we publish carries an exact price — the price we read on the named retailer’s own page — with the retailer’s name attached. Prices move; the checkout price at the retailer always wins, and we never show a price without its source.
3. Never estimate. If we cannot verify a spec or a current price, we leave it blank and label it “Not priced yet” or “Spec not published.” We do not currency-convert, we do not round up from memory, and we do not fill gaps from old articles.

What we do NOT do

• We do not claim hands-on testing we haven’t done. Our framing is “verified specs + exact prices,” nothing more. Where we describe feel, noise, or ease of use, we say exactly whose claim it is — usually the manufacturer — and we keep it brief.
• We do not rank recalled models. If a model is under an active CPSC recall, it is excluded from our rankings until the issue is resolved.
• We do not rank commercial-only units as home picks. Gym-grade machines built for facilities are evaluated separately from home equipment.
• We do not pad lists. If a category runs dry on verifiable models, the list is shorter. Thin rows help nobody.

How products are chosen

Picks are chosen from models that are currently sold by major retailers or the manufacturer in the United States, with exact model numbers we can verify. We weight specifications that matter for home use — footprint, folding, weight capacity, warranty length, and noise profile — alongside exact price, so a pick list reflects real homes, not just spec sheets.
